Stefan Schulz

Stefan Schulz (*Berlin, 1971) began his musical studies on the horn, later switching to the trombone. He studied in Berlin and Chicago. From 1993 to 2002 he was trombonist in the Berlin State Opera Orchestra (Staatskapelle Berlin) with conductor Daniel Barenboim; he was also a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. He has been soloist with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Wiesbaden State Orchestra, the Philharmonia Wien and the Aarhus Symphonie Orchester. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been a mentor at the Staatskapelle Berlin Academy and professor at the Hanover Conservatory of Music and Theater, guest professor at the Hanns Eisler Conservatory of Music in Berlin, and since 2004 he has been professor of trombone at the Berlin University of the Arts. Stefan Schulz founded the “World Trombone Quartett” with the world-renowned trombonists Joseph Alessi, Michael Bequet and Jorgen van Rijen.
