Rolando Fernández

Born in 1990, raised in a family of Cuban and Mexican musicians, Rolando Fernandez is already a great cellist with a more than promising future. Rolando started playing the cello at the age of 4 under the instruction of his father.

He made his solo debut with the Querétaro Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 10. Since then he was awarded in numerous international competitions (Second prize at the International Cello Competition “Anton Rubinstein” in Dusseldorf. Third prize at the “Amsterdam cello Biennale”, Honorable mention at the International Cello Competition “Leos Janacek” in the Czech Republic, prize of the Kronberg Academy, etc.)

In 2019 he was selected to participate in the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Currently he makes his soloist diploma and he is assistant of the Violoncello class of Prof. Nicolas Altstaedt at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler”, Berlin, Germany.

Fernández has played in the Impossible Orchestra at Festival Paax GNP for two consecutive years.
