Jörgen Van Rijen

Jörgen van Rijen (*The Netherlands, 1975) is principal of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Maybe the world’s greatest trombonist at the present time – he was awarded the Dutch Music Prize in 2004, the highest distinction in the field of music in the Netherlands, and won many major prizes since then – he is specialist on both modern and baroque, and has a strong commitment to promoting his instrument, bringing the existing repertoire to a broader audience when not developing a new one. Frequently invited by numerous orchestras, van Rijen was also called upon to play for several months in 2014 as a member of the trombone section of the New York Philharmonic. He has also performed for several seasons as principal trombonist of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
