Edicson Ruiz

Edicson Ruiz (Caracas, 1985) decided at the age of 11 to dedicate himself to the study of the double bass. This was possible thanks to the musical education program “El Sistema”, that is, the State Foundation for the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela (FESNOJIV), founded by José Antonio Abreu. When he was only 15 years old, he won the International Double Bass Competition in Indianapolis, USA. In 2001 he was the youngest scholarship holder at the Orchestral Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. There he completed his instrumental training under the guidance of Klaus Stoll and even before the end of his studies he was appointed a permanent member of this prestigious orchestra. In 2002 he was also awarded the “Order José Felix Ribas”. Edicson Ruiz is today one of the greatest double bass soloists, having performed magnificent solo concerts, in chamber ensembles or accompanied by renowned orchestras in the 5 continents.
