Buika

María Concepción Balboa Buika (*1972 in Palma de Mallorca) is a Spanish singer, songwriter and actress. Her unique voice and the intensity of her performance make her often compared to singers such as Nina Simone, Chavela Vargas and Cesaria Evora. She has worked with Anoushka Shankar, Charles Aznavour, Seal, Nelly Furtado, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Nitin Sawhney and Chavela Vargas. She was awarded a Latin Grammy for her album “El Último Trago” in 2009 and nominated for three others. In 2011, she collaborated on several songs for the film “La Piel Que Habito” (The Skin I Live In) by director Pedro Almódovar.
